I’ve worked in the financial services industry for well over 20 years. I started as a mortgage adviser back in the 1990s. Since then, there has been a lot of change in the financial services industry. I believe there’s been both good and bad change, but also that some things that needed to change just haven’t.
The best way I can explain is that I feel like organisations have continuously expected people like me to help them to fit a square peg into a round hole. There are things within the financial services industry that are more difficult than they should be, and some that in my opinion, just don’t work well for everyone and that’s not fair.
I’ve been lucky to have been able to work with several leading health and insurance experts, getting involved in revolutionary and ground-breaking projects. Working with some of the UK’s biggest charities, helping them and their members gain easy access to products has been very rewarding too. I’ve been involved in fund-raising, promoting, and many sponsored charity runs and other events.
I believe that every person has a right to be treated transparently, fairly, and equally, regardless of their situation or circumstances. It’s this shortfall within the industry to meet what I see as a minimum standard that drives my desire to push for even more change.
Alongside being a proud father and husband, I consider myself very lucky to have been able to work with the many thousands of families that we have helped obtain life insurance and mortgages. Some of which might otherwise have struggled in what still is, in places a very old-fashioned industry.
When I started my career, I couldn’t have dreamt that I’d be in such a humbling position as I find myself today. Being able to push for more change and acceptance for more people, while our fantastic team at iam|FINANCIAL can help people every day, doesn’t feel like work. I’m proud to be able to do it, and I continue to work alongside my colleagues talking with and helping our customers every day.
