Tachycardia life insurance

Tachycardia is a form of arrythmia (irregular heartbeat) which causes your heart to beat much faster than usual. This can be caused due to a variety of reasons and if you experience tachycardia this can have a big impact on your life.

According to the NHS, more than 2 million people in the UK will experience problems with their heart rhythms, with it being too slow, too fast, or irregular.

If you have a condition like tachycardia, you may be put off from applying from life insurance thinking you can’t get it. This doesn’t have to be the case and we have helped many people with heart issues like tachycardia find the cover they need.

Heart problems are common in this country and insurers are used to receiving applications from people with tachycardia, heart disease, cardiomyopathy and more. Some insurers will be better than others though, and our team of experts can help you make sure you apply to the one that best suits you.

YES – you should be able to get life insurance cover with tachycardia and if you already have a policy in place, you will still be covered following your diagnosis.

If you had your policy before you were diagnosed, your cover and policy cost will be based on your health at that time and wont change. You are more likely to develop health conditions as you get older, so we always recommend putting cover in place as early in life as possible.

If you are worried that having a rapid heart rate will cause issues with your application, our expert advisors can support you every step of the way. We have helped hundreds of people with heart conditions find the right cover to secure their family’s financial well-being – and at a fair price.

Does life insurance pay out for tachycardia?

YES – yes if you were to pass away due to tachycardia or something related, your policy should still pay out.

The only way this would not happen is if you had tachycardia when you applied and did not tell the insurance provider. It is important to be honest when applying for life insurance, as not mentioning a health condition can cause your cover to be invalidated.

A life insurance policy can help provide your family with much needed support to pay for bills and expenses at a difficult time. A pay out from a life insurance policy can be used to pay for things such as:

  • Funeral costs
  • Mortgage or rent payments
  • Repaying debts
  • School fees
  • And more…

If you need life insurance, you will be asked several questions during the application. The answers to these help insurers understand your health, so they can give you the right rates and type of cover. Be sure to answer all their questions as honestly as possible.

You will be asked general health and lifestyle questions. If you have tachycardia, you also may be asked questions such as:

  • How severe your tachycardia symptoms are
  • What type of tachycardia you have e.g. ventricular tachycardia, supraventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation
  • Does tachycardia prevent you from working and doing normal tasks?
  • When were you diagnosed with tachycardia?
  • Have you had any surgery or treatments related to your tachycardia? e.g. catheter ablation or pacemaker
  • Are you on medication to treat your symptoms?

If you disclose a problem with your heart, it is highly likely the insurer will want to see a medical report from your GP. This is standard practice, so you don’t need to worry that this will automatically stop you getting the cover you need.

Providers just need to make sure they have a good picture of your overall health while assessing your application. The insurer will arrange to get this report and you won’t need to do anything yourself.

YES – it is still possible to get life insurance with tachycardia. If your high heart rate is well controlled, you can likely get cover for far less than you think at standard rates. The key is to make sure you are approaching the right insurers who understand your condition.

With over 20 years’ worth of expertise, we know which providers are best suited to people with heart problems and willing to offer great cover at a reasonable cost.

Can I get supraventricular tachycardia life insurance?

YES – it is possible to get life insurance with supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), but it can be harder to do so due to this being a more serious form of tachycardia. This is where it can be useful to speak to an insurance specialist, who will know which insurers are best to approach for your cover.

Supraventricular tachycardia causes sudden episodes of faster heart rhythms (palpitations) which in serious attacks can even cause cardiac arrest.

It is hard to predict when this will happen and episodes can happen every day or infrequently. There can be various triggers including tiredness, caffeine and alcohol and sometimes the cause is unclear.

Can I get critical illness cover with tachycardia?

YES – you should be able to get critical illness cover if you have tachycardia, and if your symptoms are mild the price will usually be very reasonable.

Sometimes if you have problems with your heart, the insurer might choose to place an exclusion on heart related conditions. This just means you would not be able to claim for issues with your heart but would still be covered for a variety of other conditions.

Critical illness cover provides you with a tax-free lump sum if you were to be diagnosed with a serious medical condition. You can use this to pay for medical expenses, cover monthly bills and more.

Common reasons to claim on critical illness insurance include:

Budget can be a big concern when choosing your life insurance policy. It is a good idea to know details such as how much cover you need and how long for, so you can compare the policies on offer to see who is offering the cover you need for the right price.

There are a few factors that can affect how much you will pay for your life insurance. With any policy, your age, weight, height and smoker status will all play a part. Other things that will affect how much you pay are:

  • The insurance provider you choose
  • Your general health and lifestyle
  • The type of policy you need e.g. family life insurance, mortgage life insurance, guaranteed life insurance
  • The length of cover needed (whole of life vs term life insurance)
  • The amount of cover needed (£s)

How to save on tachycardia life insurance

If you want to save on your insurance policy, there a few ways you can lower the monthly cost of your cover. The best way of doing this is usually by comparing policies across multiple providers, to make sure the policy you choose is the best available.

Our life insurance specialists can help you with this comparison, checking prices across some of the UK biggest providers (as well as specialists) to find you the most competitive prices.
