Dying Matters Awareness Week

One of the most difficult conversations but a very necessary one is talking about our own death and our wishes.

A subject that we’re incredibly familiar with from over two decades of operating a business in the life insurance industry. We have this conversation with our customers literally every day when we talk about their life insurance needs.

About Dying Matters Awareness Week 2022 (2nd to 6th May)

Every year in May, Hospice UK helps to raise awareness about us starting the conversation about our own death.

This year, the main topic of Dying Matters Awareness Week is being #inagoodplace and prepared for when we die.

Are you #inagoodplace to talk about death, dying, and grief?

One of the most important conversations that we can have with our loved ones, is what happens when we die. Being in a good place means that we are prepared physically, emotionally, financially, spiritually, and critically that we have the right support or care.

Every day, people are dying without the support or care that they need, and they’re not prepared as well as they could or should be.

This year Dying Matters Awareness Week is our chance to start the conversation with our family, friends, and even colleagues about death, dying, and grief. The stigma that surrounds death can mean that we avoid the subject and leave our loved ones open to risks of financial hardship and mental health problems.

How do life insurance support grief and claims?

Life insurance companies have been working extremely hard for many years to provide customers with support and counselling through the claims process.

We all know that life insurance is a product that we never want to have to use, but it is extremely important for our loved ones, should it be needed. Our life insurance policies can provide families with vital financial support following the death of a parent or partner in the household.

Here we look at and consider what we could and should be talking about with our loved ones from our life insurance policies.

What support does life insurance offer for bereavement and claims?

Here is a table showing the support offered by several of our main insurance partners for claims and counselling.

These are the things that we should be considering and talking to our loved ones about when we look for life insurance.

If your life insurance provider doesn’t offer the type of support that you would want your family to have, then is that policy right for you?

Which insurance providers offer Estate Administration Support?

The sole purpose of the majority of life insurance policies is to provide our families with financial support when we die.

Something we very rarely think about it, what happens with that money when we die, and how is it spent. There are a number of services that are now available through most of the mainstream insurance providers to support your loved ones.

It’s important to know what these services are and how to use them to get the most from our life insurance claims.
