Vitality Life Insurance boosts life expectancy by up to 5 years
An interesting new study has found that Vitality’s healthy rewards scheme could potentially help to extend your life expectancy by up to 5 years (57%). Vitality has partnered with the London School of Economics to survey more than 465,000 of its members over the last 7 years.
Vitality is well known for its incentive-based insurance model, which offers exclusive rewards and discounts to members who are physically active. Some of the most popular Vitality rewards partners include top high street brands like Apple, Garmin, and Caffè Nero.
While it can be possible to boost your life span by improving your lifestyle, it’s also worth noting that Vitality members may be more likely to be physically active to begin with. This is due to Vitality’s strong emphasis on encouraging healthy living from its health and life insurance customers.
Vitality life insurance can be a great option for some people, but the focus on active lifestyles and rewards might not work for everyone. You should consider if you have time to fully engage with the Vitality rewards programme and can read our latest ‘Vitality Life Insurance Review’ for more information.

- Members who have made smaller lifestyle changes could still expect to live for around 2 years longer on average.

How do Vitality Rewards work?
Vitality’s healthy rewards programme rewards Vitality members with an active lifestyle by offering discounts on a range of products and activities. The programme has been designed to encourage long term improvements to your health and all rewards are linked to your level of physical activity.
Vitality members need to track their physical activity (e.g. daily steps) using devices such as a smart watch. Your level of activity will then be converted into points on your Vitality member app, which can be used to claim discounts and free items.
You can also receive Vitality points by undergoing yearly physical checks or taking part in a Vitality event (e.g. volunteering for Parkrun).

Should I take out Vitality life insurance?
Vitality could be a good option for the life insurance that you need, but it won’t be the right fit for every person or family. You will need to maintain an active lifestyle to get full value for money from your policy, as you need to track your physical activity to claim your rewards.
You might also find that the cover is overly expensive for your budget or that you are unlikely to use the rewards currently offered by the Vitality scheme. If you’re not interested in tracking your health or physical activities, another insurer might be a better choice and a cheaper option for you.
It’s always important to compare your options before choosing a new life insurance policy to ensure that it’s affordable and suitable for you and your family. An experienced adviser can compare quotes from across the market to find the right policy to protect your home or family.
